COMPETA - the Perl of the Axarquia

Competa has for a long time been known as the "Pearl of Axarquia". The town is one of the best places to stay if you are considering visiting places of interest in that part of Andalucia, Spain.

Competa is central to places such as Nerja, Torrox, Frigiliana, Velez-Malaga and many other towns of Axarquia. The name "Axarquia" is said to derive from the Arabic Ash-Sharquia meaning "eastern region" and, if you were to look at the map of that part of Andalucia, you will see it is just that shape.

The Competa area has much to offer the tourist, not just sun, sea and sand but also Competa and the surrounding areas are fantastic for such activities as walking in the hills, bird watching, mountain biking and motorbike tours as well as having the most stunning natural views that would gladden the eye of any photographer.

In and around the town, there are also plenty of activities, such as Yoga, art galleries, plenty of places to eat and enjoy tapas and a glass or two of the local wine.  One of the major sites of Competa is the "Mirador Panoramico" this has views right over the town and the coast and is a must for anyone with a camera. The church of La Asuncion is a delightful church that is as beautiful inside as it is dramatic outside and it is the focal point of the Competa community.

Use Competa as a base to visit the Alhambra Palace in Granada, the Sierra Nevada ski resorts as well as coastal towns such as Nerja, Torrox, Frigiliana and of course Malaga. If you like, go further east of Malaga and take in Fuengirola,

Marbella, Torremolinos, Puerto Banus and more. You also have the added bonus of a host of golf courses all along the coast from Competa and, of course, both Malaga and Granada airports are at your disposal.
