NERJA - The Balcony of Europe

Nerja on the Costa del Sol, east of Malaga city is without doubt one of my favourite places in Andalucia, Spain.

Nerja is located east of Malaga and south of Granada giving it a very special place as far as the tourist is concerned. If you are using Nerja as a base, you have a wealth of places to see and plenty to do. Without leaving the town itself you have the beautiful church of San Salvador. This big, dramatic church has fantastic decor, ornaments and statues and is a must see.  Next to the church and the Unicaja bank is a brilliant tapas restaurant, here you will findthe very best in Andalucia taps and wines. The church is just off the famous Balcòn de Europa or “Balcony of Europe”. This name was supposed to have been given to the outcrop of land that offers great views both east and west. There is a statue of King Alfonso XII situated on the left side of the Balcòn de Europa and he is very popular with the tourists and their cameras. Also, just off the end of the Balcòn is Tutti Frutti square, a fantastic place to have a meal of many cuisines, ice cream, and coffee or a little of what makes you happy and watch the world go by.

Nerja – More to see and do

There are plenty of bars, restaurants, shops and cafes for you to take the weight off your feet. Places such as the Burro Blanco in Calle de la Gloria, offer Flamenco shows as does El Colono. The Nerja caves are world famous and you really must see them. Don’t worry, you won’t have to crawl through tight places, the Nerja caves are so big that they hold concerts inside them.

There is a tourist train  and a shuttle buss that will take you all around the town, so, no need to worry about driving.

Nerja has many beaches and Burriana Beach is a beauty. Here you will find the world famous Ayo’s Paella, this has been the subject of many travel programs.  Just outside Nerja is a Roman style aqueduct “Acueduct Aguila” or “The Eagle”. Although Romanesque in every way it was built in the 19th century.

From Nerja you can visit Maro, Frigiliana, La Herradura and a host of places along the Costa del Sol. Not forgetting the Alhambra Palace and Sierra Nevada ski resorts to the north.

There are also many golf courses to keep the golfers happy. The nearest is Baviera Golf in Caleta de Velez just a 10 min drive away.

Nerja Villas For Rent has a host of fantastic villas and apartments, both beachfront and inland that will prove delightful and helpful as you set out to discover Nerja and its surroundings.
